can anyone tell me the difference and if $35 premium for one over the other is worth it? (so if I do both we’re talking about $166 vs $100

Didn’t look at which one is more but I’ve used EMPI parts in the past with no issues. They’ve been around a long time.

EMPI might be able to charge more for brand recognition. They both probably come out of the same factory in China.

So I’m not as familiar with those aftermarket brands, but I do know when it comes to aftermarket axles for VW’s, you’re better off buying the OEM, which is usually only found at the dealer for incredible sums of money.
I’m not exactly sure why you have to buy dealer axles on VW’s, but I guess some are solid, or hollow, and the aftermarket ones aren’t so they vibrate and cause problems. If the axle isn’t completely destroyed, you can but the outer part and reubuild it.
And further evidence that aftermarket are very different: VW will charge you the core charge for the axle if they’re aftermarket. Broken original VW axles are worth more as a core than new aftermarket axles. And the core charge is actually more than the cost of the part sometimes, because VW needs the core to re-build.
